independenceday_2007_08 Independence Day:
Indian Independence Day was celebrated on the 19th of August, 2007. Our celebration started with Mr. Ray Annamalai hoisting the Indian Flag, followed by singing "Thaiyen Manikodi Parreer" by everyone.
The Indian National Anthem was sung after saluting our flag. Our sincere thanks to Mr.Lakshmanan Sockalingam, Mr.Sathya Singan and Mr. Thangamani Periyaswamy for their wonderful speech.
Our special thanks to Mrs Sashi Indran for her efforts to conduct some interesting and enjoyable games for the children. The turn out of about 120 people was a very good start for this year. Food was great, children enjoyed and adults had a relaxed and an easy time.
blooddonation_2007_08 Blood Donation Program:
Our Blood Donation program was on 4th Oct 2007 at the Blood Donor Centre in Great South Road, Auckland. We contributed to the much needed, blood donations for the general New Zealand community. About 22 members donated blood. The objective of bringing about the awareness of blood donation amongst members was achieved.
diwali_2007_08 Deepavali Celebrations:
Our Deepavali was celebrated on 17th of November 2007. We had a huge turnout of members and non members who joined in the celebration. It was indeed very impressive to see such a large and excited audience enjoy themselves. Our goal is to offer everyone a fun-filled evening of entertainment and social get together that appeals to the whole family. Most of the program was performed by our Tamil School children and member's children. Reciting of Aathi chuvadi by the Tamil School children, got the standing applause by the audiences.
Thanks to the children,that is, Vetri Ilango and Aditiyan Ilango, Shrish Lakshmanan, Varsha Gomathinayagam, Shivani Shivaloganathan, Divya Trichy, Rutvik Vanamala, Sahana Indiran and Disha Gomathi Nayagam, Sneha Indiran, Saankhya and Sanchaya Soundararajan, Manish Lakshman, Karan Sridhar and all the Tamil School Children who gave a wonderful performance. We sincerely thank Mrs. Sashi Indiran and Mrs. Jaya Parasuraman who put in nearly 10 weeks of practice into the Tamil school performance.
Pattimandram was well conducted by Mr Sengotian and thanks to the Paticipants of the Pattimandram , Mr. Lakshmanan Socklaingam, Mrs Renuka Madan, Mr. Prasanna and Mr. Ilango Krishnamoorthy Shanthi Lakshmanan and Miss. Saiantha Kumaranathan were the Master of Ceremony on that day. Mr. Kadiravan Sivaprakasam, Mr. Blaguru Singam ( stage sound system management) , Mr. Senthil Nathan , Rajmohan , Arul , Solai , Vivek, Srinivasan, Meenupriya , Mrs. Senthil Yoges , Mrs. Sakthi Ilango and Lakshmi Balagi who helped with the catering and reception.
The Chief Guest of the function was Mr Su'a William Sio, Deputy Mayor, Manukau City Council. We also thank Shane Jones Minister for Building and Construction who took time to join us in the celebration.

On the whole, our Deepavali celebration was a grand success.
pongal_2007_08 Pongal Celebrations:
Muth Tamil Sangam celebrated Pongal on the 13th of January 2008 at the Mount Albert War Memorial Hall. We started off our program with the Pongal Panai where the traditional custom of preparing pongal.
Pongal is the embodiment of Tamil culture. Tamil Pongal heralds the hope of a new era of prosperity. It signifies the end of the harvest season with plenty of hopes pinned on the entire Tamil month of 'Thai' beginning with the Pongal Day.
Muth Tamil Sangam celebrated Pongal on the 13th of January 2008 at the Mount Albert War Memorial Hall. We started off our program with the Pongal Panai where the traditional custom of preparing pongal was followed. Later we continued our celebration by Kareoke songs sung by our members, best couple selection conducted by Mr. Lakshmanan and Tambola where all members participated.
The food catered by Saffron was excellent and this Pongal was indeed another memorable one.
environmentday_2007_08 World Wetlands Day:
This year Muthtamilsangam celebrated Wetlands Day by cleaning the stream at Rata Vine Drive at Manurewa on 2nd of Feb 2008.
2nd February each year is World Wetlands Day. It marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Each year since 1997, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and groups of citizens at all levels of the community have taken advantage of the opportunity to undertake actions aimed at raising public awareness of wetland values and benefits and the Ramsar Convention.
This year Muthtamilsangam celebrated Wetlands Day by cleaning the stream at Rata Vine Drive at Manurewa on 2nd of Feb 2008. Trudy McNie, Park Ranger, Manukau Parks, appriciated the good work of our Sangam. After the cleaning, members enjoyed the BBQ hosted by Mr. Ilango Krishnamoothy.
onedaytrip_2007_08 One Day Trip:
Our one day trip to the Auckland Museum on 9th of March was enjoyed by members who had come along. It was well organised by our EC member Mr. Deen.

More than 30 adults with equal number of children enjoyed the visit to the Auckland Museum . Many new members joined the trip on that day. After the visit to the Museum , lunch was arranged and everyone enjoyed the lunch under the cool trees of the Domain.
twodaytrip_2007_08 Two Day Trip:
Our Family Trip with an overnight stay was held at Hunua Falls on the 5TH and 6th of April. The fun and activities will sure remain in the memories of the participants for a long time to come.
newyear_2007_08 Tamil New Year Celebration:
Tamil New Year Celebrations were held on Saturday the 19th of April, 2008 at Freeman's Bay Community Hall, Freeman Bay. The event started at 5.30 pm and ended around 9.00pm. We were very lucky to have with us as our chief guest Vijaya Vaidyanath and Madurai Muralidaran who stayed with us and enjoyed the show to the very end.
Our Tamil School children said Thirukurral which was well appreciated by the audience.
Young Participants rendered wonderful performances and thanks to Vinitha Navarathinam (student of Madurai Muralidaran) her performance was the highlight of the show. The Magic show performed by Mick Peck was enjoyed both by the children and the adults. Every one enjoyed Padma School of Dancing for their performance and Anujay Natyalayam for their wonderful performance. Karaoke by Mr. Ravi was enjoyed very much by the audience.
The crowd enjoyed every bit of the show. The event was well organized and ended well with the dinner supplied by Saffron continued support.
