MuthTamil Sangam's Tamil Classes

The Muthtamil Sangam conducts Tamil Classes from 2002 till date for the children of Members, with the help of Voluntary teachers.

The Sangam tries to achieve the following objectives.

  1. To equip the Tamil children with the capability to have a working knowledge in reading, writing and speaking Tamil.
  2. To prepare the children for appearing in the International Tamil Exams.
  3. To provide a platform for interaction with other Tamil children in Auckland.
  4. To continue and carry the activities of Muthtamil Sangam in to the next generation Tamils of Auckland, New Zealand
  5. To facilitate the continued connections with the children roots in Tamilnadu.
  6. To facilitate the capability and sense of appreciation of our culture, tradition, language and literature.
  7. To provide a sense of cultural identity and pride.
  8. To enable them develop into a cohesive social group with high values capable of mutual support and camaraderie in addition to being good citizens of their adapted motherland New Zealand.

We would also like to thank Mrs Leena Mani, Mr Lakshmanan Sockalingam, Mr Chandrasekaran Pichai, Mr Ilango Krishnamurthy, Mr Manikkam, Mr Thangamani Mrs. Lakshmi Subramanian, Mrs. Subatra Rajaguru, Mr Ravindran Vaithiyalingam, Mr Rangan, Mr Balaguru, Mrs Balamani Somasundaram, Mrs Malar Senthilanthan, Mrs Kumudham Sadakutty, Mrs Sridevi Kathiravan, Mrs Sashi Indiran and have been actively associated in conducting classes. Children between the ages of 4 to 15 are eligible to join the classes. Currently there are more than 45 children who are benefiting from our Tamil school. Special classes for adults are also being conducted. At present the classes are held for Beginners, Intermediate and Seniors appropriate syllabus under the Tamil Virtual University.

Auckland's well known Journalist and Editor Shri.K.Venkatraman, in a largely attended meeting on 21st July 2007. expressed his deep appreciation and support for the efforts of Sangam in conducting the classes.

Tamil classes are currently held at 56 Glass Road, Mount Roskill Auckland every Saturday between 4.00PM to 5.30PM.

The children are also encouraged to perform cultural programs in functions and Sangam events and other occasions. Opportunities are provided for other extra curricular activities such as group outing, cooking classes etc.
